Year 8 pupil Thomas and Charlotte in Year 7 had their artwork selected back in October for the 29th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest and have just received the news of their success, with them winning 1st and 3rd places respectively in the South East region heat of the competition.
Thomas’ and Charlotte’s posters were among more than 600,000 entries submitted worldwide, with their poster designs being sponsored by Dover Lions Club. Thomas’ poster which was the winning South East design was selected by Lions District Governor, Rod Weale, for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme, “A Celebration of Peace”.
Thomas said “The design portrays the world as one celebrating love, harmony and peace”.
3rd place winner Charlotte said her poster “represented the world coming together as one in celebration of peace.”
Dover Lions Club President Elaine Prime said she was impressed by the expression and creativity of the students at Dover College. “It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them. I’m so proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions”
Thomas’ design went on to be judge at the Multiple District round, but sadly he was beaten at the post. However, the College is proud of their achievements and both Thomas and Charlotte be presented with their prizes by members of the Dover Lions Club at the start of the Summer term.
