A View from the Close 1st December 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we gear up for Advent and the arrival of Christmas, the staff are all asking ourselves the same question: where has the term gone?

The trees are going up around the school, and we’re preparing for the coming of Christmas with the College’s magnificent ADVENT CAROL SERVICE this Monday, 4 December in the Chapel at 1830 followed by a reception. We hope to see as many people as possible there to celebrate the start of the upcoming Christmas season.

On Friday we will be entertained by the Junior School in Menzies for the Nativity Evening – it’s always a wonderful occasion, and will be starting at 1700 prompt.

On Saturday we have the annual Christmas Concert. Always a wonderful traditional event, we’re looking forward to festive numbers and much celebration. This will take place in the Refectory at 1900, followed by a reception.

Next week also sees the start of the Senior School House socials; we realise that it’s a busy time for parents, especially day parents who are ferrying their children around to numerous events and activities. Sometimes it can cause much pressure on household management, and we’re sorry that it is so hectic. At least you’ll have the calm of the Christmas period once term has finished to relax…

Academic Theme Week

Mr Ellerington introduced the theme for the week as IN 50 YEARS. He advised that creativity would be at the heart of any advances in technology. Also, if we went back 50 years to 1967 we could reflect on what had happened then with technology and creativity. It was also an excuse for Mr Ellerington to play some Beatles tracks from their 50th anniversary album Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

News from the Sports Department

Monday 20th  November

U13 Football away vs St Edmunds

The A team had a brilliant 5-3 win in their match with the scoring opened by the returning Nicholas Proctor, after two weeks out with injury. With a stiff breeze dictating the balance of play throughout the game, our boys were magnificent in nullifying the skill of the St Edmund’s boys and scoring at will on the counter. The B team again played an 11-a-side mixed game with their counterparts from St Ed’s, with all the Priory boys once again able to represent the College.

Wednesday 22nd November

U13 Hockey away vs Junior King’s

On Wednesday U13 travelled away to Junior Kings. The B team started the game slowly but had a much more competitive 2nd half with Belle Klappa stepping up and showing her potential on the field. The A team gave their performance of the season with a tremendous 7-0 victory. Avy Taylor 2, Captain Lottie Hide 2, Angelique Taylor with a hat trick.

Priory Inter-house Football

In a very one-sided match School House were the victors. Leamington will look forward to the rugby season for their revenge.

Saturday 25th November

Football at home vs Farrington’s

The Under 15s were raring to go on a cold Saturday morning for what would be their last game of the season. Our good passing and movement was key during the match and resulted in a strong 4-0 win with a hat trick from Leo Tardieu, one from Jaiden Flisher and it was also the team’s first clean sheet this year, a great way to cap off the season.

A Year 9-bolstered under 13s team got off to an awful start, falling 2-0 down early on in the game. However, they battled back to 2-2 at half time. In the second half they scored 4 unanswered goals to win the game 6-2. A hat trick for Sam smith and 1 goal apiece for Max Ritchie-Coombs, Nicholas Proctor and Paul Datan. Well done boys!

As ever,

Gareth Doodes.
