Set within beautiful grounds, the Early Years at Dover College occupies a purpose-built, self-contained area which is both spacious and stimulating for the children. The outdoor facilities include a covered area to encourage all-weather use along with age-appropriate resources and activities.
The Early Years is firmly embedded within the whole school community, allowing us to capitalise upon the many outstanding facilities offered throughout the school. The children are afforded the opportunity to participate in exceptional and specialist teaching from aged three; this includes bespoke P.E. and music lessons, amongst other exciting activities.
In keeping with the family ethos palpable throughout the College, Early Years children share a delicious, nutritious, home cooked meal in the Great Hall each day with the rest of the Junior School students. This promotes community cohesion and is an ideal opportunity for the older children to model behaviour. These prospects are paralleled by those presented at weekly Chapel services, where children are again invited to come together as a family to reflect, share and celebrate.
The Early Years team is meticulous in its dedication to the learning needs of each individual child and tailor activities in order to capture the imagianation of the children. In addition to this, a route for progression and a pathway to school readiness is crafted through careful delivery of adult-led activities. Daily letters and sounds and maths challenges place a strong emphasis upon the development of key skills within an intimate learning environment, all the while ensuring that children’s creative opportunities are both plentiful and augmented wherever possible.
The children enjoy the freedom to explore and discover within a structured environment overseen by the Early Years Co-ordinator, who works closely with a team of qualified and experienced teaching staff to ensure high quality provision. This thoughtful teaching, along with the aforementioned opportunities and other facilities (such as the Discovery Garden) are of particular benefit to the children’s physical development; one of the identified Prime areas for development in the Early Years.
We are a passionate and devoted team and we believe vehemently that every child deserves to feel happy, confident and valued.
The nursery offers parents of children aged 3 and 4 years of age from eligible families 30 hours’ free childcare from the term after the child’s third birthday. The government-funded scheme requires parents to meet certain criteria, this includes both parents must be working and each earning at least £120 a week and not more than £100,000 per year, full eligibility details are available from the childcare service section of gov.uk.
We consistently surpass the ordinary; we think differently.
