Prefects are selected from the Year Six pupils, and are awarded by the Headmaster. This chosen post reflects each child’s strength and suitability, caring nature and the ability to be positive role models.
The posts include Head Boy and Head Girl, sports captains, librarians, house captains and chapel monitors. Each Year Six pupil receives training and undertakes various tasks which reflects their role, meeting frequently with the Deputy Head Pastoral.
The Head Boy and Head Girl have the honour of wearing a red gown to chapel and undertake readings alongside hosting activities and school events.
The three house prefects (Nevill, Christian and Ashton) supervise a number of events such as lunch time family service, our annual pancake races and sports day.
Sports captains work closely with the sports teachers to co-ordinate their teams and act as leaders, setting standards and examples for younger pupils. Each week they deliver a sports report in our celebration chapel.
Librarians have an important job collating, filing and referencing the books so pupils can quickly and easily select books to read and complete Accelerated Reader quizzes.
Chapel monitors prepare chapel for major events and play a key role in the delivery of our chapel services.
The School Council meets regularly and we are proud to have pupil representatives so that pupils have a voice and are involved in decisions about the school that affect them. These are nominated and voted in class by the pupils of each year group. Through class council, pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve debate and discussion and involve the class reaching democratic solutions for the representatives to take to School Council.
The School Council representatives ensure there is a coherent link between pupils and teachers. They are encouraged to develop leadership skills and to listen and report any concerns or areas for improvement. Elections for School Council are held termly and the agenda for each meeting is sent by each class teacher to the chair.
At the meeting the chair will raise each point and ask each representative to explain, minutes are logged in the School Council book and next steps are decided. We are very proud to have implemented many changes which have been gathered from our children’s voices.
