Matron
Required for September 2016

Dates: Job start – 01 September 2016
Salary: £8.40 per hour
Location: Dover
Contract type: Part-time, 30 hours per week 40 weeks per year.
Contract term: Permanent

Dover College requires an experienced and ‘hands on’ Matron to join one of our recently renovated girls’ boarding houses from September 2016 with approximately 20 girls aged between 11 and 18 years.

The Matron at Dover College will work closely with the Housemistress both in the pastoral care of the pupils and in the general housekeeping of the House. This will be a particularly interesting and exciting project for the successful applicant as the Matron will play a key role alongside the new Housemistress in the development of the house.  We are seeking someone who is experienced in the pastoral care and support of young people, and preferably an experienced boarding house matron.  The matron will have an important role in the pastoral support of boarding pupils, working closely with the Housemistresses.  It is expected that she will get to know the pupils well and have a listening ear where necessary. It is important that the Matron has a general understanding of teenage behaviour and has sympathy with the problems that girls may face in a boarding environment (some will be away from their homes for the first time or in a strange country).   The ideal candidate will also have energy, an enthusiastic approach to life and a desire to contribute to the creation of a happy and stable environment for the boarders in their care.  Applicants who hold the BSA Roehampton Professional Development Certificate in Boarding are encouraged to apply.

The role is part-time 30 hours per week time throughout term time (34 weeks) with an additional 6 weeks to be worked during the published school holidays.  The successful candidate will also receive 4.3 weeks paid holiday per annum.

Due to the nature of this post it is a genuine occupational requirement that it is only open to female applicants.  Applicants must be available to begin work on 1 September 2016.

Closing date: Sunday 31 July 2016
Interviews: Week commencing 01 August 2016

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Mrs Leigh Baker on bakerl@dovercollege.org.uk or call 01304 205969.

A Great Place To Work

Dover College is a great place to work. Pupils are well mannered, the staff is friendly and the surroundings are beautiful.

A recent independent report commissioned by the College concluded:

“Dover College is rare in terms of the extent to which it fulfils its promise of being a friendly, caring and welcoming school, offering a child-focused, all-round education which nurtures the potential, whatever that might be, in every child. Many independent schools lay claim to these strengths but, in our experience, few deliver to the extent that Dover College does. We found extremely high endorsements by parents and pupils for all aspects of academic, sporting, creative and pastoral activities. Uniquely, there is also a strong sense of team with both academic and non-academic staff working together for the benefit of each child.”
