Community Action

The Dover College Services programme encourages 6th Formers to give their time to help others in the community by some form of service.

The aims of this programme are to:

  • Provide help for the local community
  • Promote links with the local community
  • Broaden the outlook of every 6th Former in the programme
  • Extend the pupils’ social outlook and experience
  • Extend the pupils’ social skills and adaptability
  • Build self-confidence and maturity

Here are some examples of what Dover College pupils have been involved through this programme:

  • Working with disabled children at the Aspen Unit in Whitfield
  • Assisting with the disabled sports club at the Pent Valley Leisure Centre
  • Working on the Migrant Helpline
  • Assisting at the Dover Health Centre
  • Environmental action through cleaning Crabble Mill
  • Cleaning and tidying St Mary’s Church
  • Working with Crosslinks
  • Helping charities at various Dover Charity Shops
  • Helping at St Mary’s CE and St Richard’s Catholic Primary Schools
  • Assisting at the Harbour School, Dover
  • Assisting with language work at Dover Grammar School for Girls
  • Ground clearance at Kearnsey Campsite
  • Helping at the Dover Discovery Centre
