Boarding at Dover College from 11 years old

“I like boarding at Dover College. I have plenty of time to do my homework and spend time with my friends.”

Dover College is located in the heart of Dover, one hour from London and it is the nearest day and boarding school to the Continent. The town of Dover is famous for its White Cliffs. Here is a short video about the area made by some of our Year 11 pupils. Dover video.

Dover College is one of many boarding schools in Kent but what makes Dover College a great boarding school is a combination of things. There are excellent boarding facilities for both boys and girls and flexible, weekly or full-time boarders. The boarding accommodation is located within the Close of Dover College, making it a tight-knit community in a safe environment.

Busy working London or Kentish families enjoy the flexible boarding options on offer at Dover College, whether it be casual boarding, weekly or full boarding. London children can also easily commute from London with the bullet train from St Pancras to Dover Priory station, a couple of minutes walk from the school.

Dover College has a strong tradition of pastoral care delivered through the House system. The School is a very friendly and supportive community and pupils benefit from this well structured system of pastoral care. Pupils of all ages (from 11 years old) across the various year groups are well-integrated with each other.

All boarding pupils are given comfortable well furnished accommodation. Sixth formers have a room of their own within each of the boarding Houses. 11 to 15 year old pupils tend to share double or triple rooms. Many pupils bring their own laptops and other equipment into school. Communication with friends and relations outside school is easy and arrangements for weekend leave are as flexible as possible. There are no exeat weekends so it makes life easier for parents who don’t have to worry about weekend arrangements.

Each boarding House has good entertainment facilities and House-based events, such as parties and outings, occur on a regular basis.

There is a healthy rivalry between all Houses at Dover College, including in the Day Houses. Houses compete with each other on the games field and on other occasions. The highlights of the year are the House Music Competition and House Drama Competition, which are always keenly contested!
