The Art and Design Department is situated on middle ground in a purpose built building (erected in 1994) which also houses Design Technology.
The Staff
Julian Dewick. BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art in 1991. He followed this with two years teaching at the Montsaye School in Northamptonshire. He gained his PGCE at the Bolton Institute in 1996 and then joined Dover College before becoming Head of Department in January 2009. He works in both disciplines of Art and Design Technology . He is married to Katherine, (who produces ceramics and textiles professionally), and has a son Jack and a daughter Lily. In his spare time he enjoys walking and travelling.
Amy Simmons. BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles from Sommerset College of Art and Technology in 2001. She worked at the West of England School for the Blind for three years whilst selling her own textiles and silver jewellery. After gaining her PGCE at Plymouth University in 2006 she joined Dover College in the September of that year. Her interests include sailing, jewellery making, walking and travelling. Teaches Textiles at KS3, GCSE and AS/A2 levels.

The Curriculum
In the years 7, 8 and 9, pupils are in mixed ability groups, building from year 7 the discovery of techniques and processes through the exploration of materials. An evaluation of work and the acquisition and correct use of specific language and subject terminology is also integral to the skills development at this level.

Year 10 and 11 GCSE students are prepared for the AQA/Unendorsed examination. This is a broadly based course offering a variety of Art experiences catering for all students' aptitudes and abilities. Our pass rate A*-C has been maintained between 98-100% for the past ten years and the atmosphere in the Art room is relaxed, imaginative, friendly and full of purpose with high expectations.

At A level we offer the OCR AS and A2 examinations in Fine Art, which incorporates drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and related media. We have small groups with expert teaching and an excellent in-house Art library, plus computers, scanners, a TV and video area. We have high expectations of our A level students and our pass rate for both AS and A2 is 100%.
We also offer Textiles and Ceramics at both GCSE and A level.

Other information
Regular trips to galleries and exhibitions are an integral part of all the courses. Leaving students have recently gone on to Foundation courses at Chelsea College, UCCA (University College for the Creative Arts, formerly KIAD and London Guildhall. Former 'A' level students are now undertaking degree courses at
