Religious Studies

The Religious Studies Syllabus followed is that of the Independent Schools Examination Board, alternative A (revised 2006). This was produced to prepare candidates for the Common Entrance Exam at 13+, although it is not used for this purpose at Dover College.

In Year 7, pupils study the New Testament and Islam in the Summer Term.

In Year 8, pupils study the Old Testament and Judaism in the Summer Term.

In Year 9, pupils study the lives of well known individuals who were influenced by their Faith and Buddhism (e.g. Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King).

At present, each class receives one forty minute lesson per week, and one homework assignment.

The main texts used are "Religious Studies for Common Entrance" by Susan Grenfell and Islam, Judaism and Buddhism in the "Seeking Religion" series.

Texts are supported by videos (e.g. "Miracle Maker") where possible.
