The Curriculum

An exciting Spotlight Science course is followed for the first two years. This is a balanced, integrated science programme.

In Year 9 the separate sciences of Chemistry, Biology and Physics are followed.

At Key Stage 4 the pupils choose the separate sciences from the six blocks. Pupils are entered for the AQA GCSE separate sciences.

At A level all three sciences are offered, plus the opportunity to take any of the three to A/S level in the Lower 6th. The Edexcel board is used for Physics and Biology and OCR is used for Chemistry. All examinations are modular.

Our textbooks are regularly renewed, and every pupil is issued with relevant texts, as well as support material throughout their courses. Expectations are high, both in terms of behaviour and learning, and pupil achievement is significantly above the National average.

Outside the Classroom

As well as the curriculum, we run a BAYS club, Young Engineers and CREST awards scheme. We believe that it is important for our pupils to see science outside the school, so we organise trips such as the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, Pfizer's and the University of Kent at Canterbury.
