English qualifications

Dover College is a Cambridge Examination Centre, a testimony to the quality of the teaching on offer. These are the qualifications we prepare our pupils for:

  • PET
  • IGCSE
  • IELTS

Courses for 16 to 18 year olds

Many International pupils join Dover College aged 16 and over. The Sixth Form academic curriculum includes a wide range of AS, A2 and BTEC courses. Pupils will also be prepared for the IELTS examination. Universities in English speaking countries require their International pupils to have reached a minimum IELTS score of 6.5

Sixth Formers choose up to four subjects during their first year (AS level) and generally keep three subjects for their second year (A level).

Dover College offers a wide range of subjects, suiting the broad mix of pupils studying at the school. With over 20 subjects available, choosing a course that you like and can thrive in should not be too difficult!

To find out more about the Sixth Form at Dover College, take a look at the Senior School section: www.dovercollege.org.uk/sixth/index.php

Courses for 14 to 15 year olds

In order to join the two year GCSE course, International pupils need to have an intermediate level of English. English as a Second Language will also be part of the timetable.

Up to eight GCSEs may be taken over the two year period.

International pupils study core GCSE subjects (Maths GCSE, IGCSE English and IGCSE Double Science). Additional subjects include: French, Spanish, Geography, Business Studies, Physical Education, Economics, Drama, Art/Ceramics, Music, Textiles, History, ICT/Business Communications and Design Technology.

Courses for 11 to 13 year olds

11 to 13 year old International pupils' English will be tested upon arrival in order to design a programme appropriate to their level and needs.

Once their command of English improves, pupils join more and more of the main stream lessons and attend English as a Second Language whilst others do native English.

Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils have a wide range of lessons that conform to the National Curriculum. Pupils are separated into different set levels according to their abilities and needs in Mathematics and Languages.
