Dover College was out en masse, for the eleventh year running Saturday 26th September, walking from Sandwich to Dover on their annual sponsored walk. This year Red Balloon will benefit from the School's efforts and it is hoped that at least £6,000 will be raised during the course of the year.

Dover College's Infant and Junior School (aged 3 -10yrs) joined the walk at different points. Year 5 and year 6 children started at the Quay at Sandwich to finish at the Zetland Arms public house in Kingsdown – 9 miles, whilst the 3 to 9 year olds started at Sandown Castle – 5 miles. Members of the senior school ran or walked the full distance of 15 miles along this breathtakingly scenic route. A well deserved picnic lunch was served by Dover College's catering team.

We are sticking together all the way. |
At Dover College we believe that teaching children to be generous and thoughtful is all part of educating the whole person, for example, Axl Cavell and Nils Freimuth, whilst managing their Young Enterprise Refreshments stall, assisted the younger students with crossing the busy roads to use the washrooms and motivating them onwards when they were tired and low. Ten year old Hannah Spice from Deal also deserves a special mention for running the entire 9 miles from Sandwich to the Zetland Arms in one hour and forty five minutes. Mrs Tresidder, Deputy Head, added: “I would like to acknowledge Delveer Athwal from Ashford for donating bottles of water which were distributed on the morning of the sponsored walk. Del was inspired by his grand-mother who passed away a year ago on Saturday and who always donated in this way to ventures such as the Dover College sponsored walk.”

This year's chosen Charity, Red Balloon, aims to provide an “intense care” full-time education for children aged 10 to 17 who are unable to go to school because they have been severely bullied.
