Dover College's day and boarding pupils achieved another impressive set of GCSE results, echoing last week's performance at A level. 92% of the candidates secured A*-C passes in five or more GCSE subjects with 100% pass-rates in the following subjects : Art, Drama, French, History, ICT, Music, Physical Education, Science, Spanish and Textiles. The overall pass-rate of 82% is remarkable for a non-selective school, clearly adding on average an extra grade to those pupils who would have been expected to obtain less in the state sector.

Dover College's new headmaster, Gerry Holden commented : “These results are reflective of the hard work of these young people supported by my excellent new colleagues; their confident performance in the classroom is central to the all-round education which we offer at Dover College. I am looking forward to many of these students making a significant contribution to the life of our buoyant sixth form over the next two years”

Dover College is delighted to announce another set of record-breaking results, with 100% pass-rate at A level. With 47% of the candidates securing A*-B grades and 76% A*-C, these performances build on the on-going academic improvements of the last five years. In this period of anxiety about university places, it was pleasing to note that most candidates have secured a place.

High achieving pupil, Giulio Pesenti, achieved five A levels in Italian, Chemistry, Maths, Physics and Economics. He has won a place at Royal Holloway to read Economics and Politics. Mr Gerry Holden, who takes over as Headmaster this month commented. “Today is always the highlight of the school year. It was wonderful to be with young people supported by their parents and my excellent new colleagues rejoicing in and celebrating academic achievement”

Heather Miller, Head of the private Infant and Junior School at Dover College is moving on to Burgess Hill. This final assembly was a bit special with pupils, staff and parents who sang "you will survive".

Dame Kelly Holmes gave 12 year old Bethany from Dover College a scoop earlier today onboard the new P&O Ship The Spirit of Britain.

Dover College ran their practice News Day with 22 students on Thursday 17th February 2011. Bethany, 13, enjoyed being in charge of organising the bulletin and was even interviewed by the BBC Team.

The running order included a business review, sports news and a weather report, as well as the top stories about elderly people having to sell their homes, the new Spirit of Britain ferry arrival in Dover and Justin Bieber. They filmed all their stories with the help of BBC mentor Jo. The boys enjoyed the filming and the mixing.

Dover College wins U15 Cross Country Granville League

Tuesday 25th January 2011, Dover College hosted the U15 Granville League Cross Country Cup in its Farthingloe grounds.

Our girls were on fire. Bethany Herrington, who is only 13, came 1st and even broke the competition record with a time of 18min26. St Lawrence managed a second place and Ashford a third. Edie Cavell was placed 4th whilst 12 year old Molly Laflin came 6th in a field of 28 runners.

Well done girls! Well worth getting dirty for.. I think!

U15 Girls Win Granville Hockey League Tournament

Tuesday 23rd November a squad of ten from Dover College went to play in the 7-aside Granville League Tournament against five other schools; Ashford, Bethany, King's Rochester, Gad's Hill and the hosts St. Lawrence. Lauren Richardson , Harry Palmer and Fran Wilson were definitely the most potent attacking force of the tournament. They linked together extremely well, creating many chances and scoring some great goals. In midfield Felicity Donnelly, Rebecca Modeste and Eldika Corrin played very well too, aided by Hannah Gray who also played in defense at times. Dolma Gurung, Charlotte Wetherell and the goalkeeper Flora Howkins also combined very well, closing out attackers and feeding our wings to start our counter-attacks. We narrowly lost one match 3-2 to King's Rochester but won all the other scoring 14 goals in all. Our best match was against Ashford whom we beat 4-0. This was to prove significant as we tied on the same points total 12-12 with the hosts St.Lawrence. However we scored 14 goals, they scored 13 (plus we had beaten them in our first match)… so we won the tournament! Being awarded the winners medals and receiving the Victor's shield was a very enjoyable experience for all concerned, a fantastic way to end our unbeaten season, and a reward for the efforts of the whole squad and coaches. Mr Butler who kindly umpired for the afternoon was very impressed with Dover College's skills' progress and structured play. He said it had been, ‘the best girls' performance he had seen at a tournament from a Dover College Girls side.' High Praise indeed, but well deserved.”
