Middle School Introduction
In year 9 pupils are divided into three groups for Mathematics, English, Science and Languages depending on each child’s aptitude and ability. But for other subjects the groups are parallel and of mixed abilities.
For pupils entering year 10, the aim is to provide a wide range of courses, that will meet the needs of our pupils, whatever their interests, career aims or ability.
All year 10 pupils have lessons in English (including English Literature), Double Science and Mathematics. The rest of the subjects are divided into several option blocks from which, with advice and guidance from home and the College, pupils choose an appropriate and well-balanced course. It is worth emphasising that this is not the same as your child just choosing the subjects he or she wants to study or is interested in, but rather what is educationally sound.
It can be seen from the blocks which can be downloaded here that there is a wide range of choice. Please note that only one subject may be chosen from each block.
The curriculum permits your son or daughter to take up to 9 GCSEs. The courses are explained in more details in the GCSE pack. You can take a look at the blocks by clicking here. To request your copy, please contact the Admissions Department.
GCSE Options
Year 10 pupils can choose to take up to 9 subjects at GCSE. Some subjects are compulsory.
Organisation of the Timetable
The College timetable works on a weekly cycle of 36 lessons of 40 minutes duration. We run an academic Saturday morning of 5 periods every other week.
