Dover College was out en masse, for the tenth year running, walking from Sandwich to Dover on their annual sponsored walk. This year the Guide Dogs for the Blinds will benefit from the School's efforts and it is hoped that at least £6,000 will be raised during the course of the year.

The Infant and Junior Department (aged 3 -10yrs) joined the walk at different points. Year 5 and year 6 children started at the Quay at Sandwich to finish at the Zetland Arms public house in Kingsdown, whilst the 3 to 9 year olds started at Sandown Castle. Parents and children enjoyed the beautiful weather and a most deserved picnic lunch served by Dover College's catering team.
Pupils and staff at Dover College would like to thank all the generous people they met along the way who kindly donated whilst enjoying the splendid weather with some local residents taking their breakfast on the promenade. Many were amazed to find out that it cost as much as £5,000 to raise and train a Guide Dog. Dover College is aiming to name a puppy, part of the association's “Name a Puppy, Change a Life” programme. This scheme will enable the children to share in their puppy's very special upbringing, watching their puppy grow in its first year of training whilst a volunteer puppy walker will look after the pup in its first year before going onto advanced training to become a fully trained, working guide dog. This puppy will bring independence and freedom to a blind or partially sighted person.
The next exciting event was suggested by Rosie French. Friday 10th October will be a day for Funky Footwear and Funky Ties. I can't wait to see the pictures!
