Academic scholarships
These may be awarded on the strength of a candidate’s performance in the Dover College 11+ entrance test i.e. there are no separate scholarship papers.
Candidates who receive an Academic Scholarship would be expected to be very capable of passing the Kent Test and will probably have high scores in base line assessments such as NFER tests.
Candidates need no extra equipment for the academic scholarship.
Art scholarship
These may be awarded on the strength of a candidate’s portfolio of work and on reports received from the candidate’s current school. Infant and Junior Department pupils will have an internal interview with a member of the senior school art department.
Candidates who receive an Art Scholarship would be expected to be able to demonstrate good observational drawing, imaginative powers, growing awareness of how to use colour, some knowledge of artists they have looked at and a love and enjoyment of the subject are required.
Candidates should bring their portfolio of work to Dover College .
Music scholarship
These may be awarded on the strength of a candidate’s performance at audition with the Director of Music.
Candidates who receive a Music Scholarship would be expected to show outstanding promise on any orchestral instrument or the piano. A suitable candidate would probably have reached at least Grade III standard on the chosen instrument.
Candidates should bring their instrument and music with them to Dover College.
Sport scholarship
These may be awarded on the strength of a candidate’s performance in the trial with the Director of Sports, Services and Activities.
Candidates who receive a Sports’ Scholarship would be expected to demonstrate a high level of general fitness and sporting potential in addition to expertise in at least one/two of Dover College’s main sports. It is likely that a successful candidate will be of County or District standard in the chosen sport(s).
Candidates should bring shower kit; white PE kit; equipment required for their strength sports (e.g. cricket equipment, hockey stick, gum shield and shin pads).
All-rounder awards
These may be awarded to candidates who, even if not Scholarship standard in one area, are just under this standard in several areas.
