Dover Arts Festival
Dover Arts Festival
Art, music, wine and patisserie will combine in a high quality programme that puts Dover at the centre of the creative arts in the South East of England. Famous French artist Allain Renoux will be adding his magic touch as the Art Director and will draw on his many years of experience as the organiser of the hugely successful Biennale d'Art Figuratif in France. As well as exhibiting his own works, Renoux will be joined by well-known Kent artists Graham Clarke, Martyn Ayncomb-Harris, Judith Gardner and Cheryl Culver. Music will be provided by a French duo called "Les Bellejolaises", some of Dover College's Musicians and the intriguingly named "Zen Bicycle Band". Joanna Hunt of Cloudberry Ltd will be presenting her high class patisserie. One of the stars will undoubtedly be Jean-Luc Longère who will be showcasing his award-winning wines from Vaux-en-Beaujolais, France and explain the wine making process. Red, white, rosé and sparkling wines will be available on the day. All profits from the day will be donated to the Chamber War Memorial Fund. John Pegg of Craft Pegg Architects will present his proposals for a War Memorial on Dover's Western Heights to commemorate the 1.7 million fatalities of the first and second World Wars.David Foley, Chief Executive of the Dover District Chamber of Commerce said, "History tells us that quality art and successful business go together. To attract such well known artists proves that Dover can compete with the best".

Summer Term Trips

Dover College pupils are busy all year round with trips and activities but possibly not to the extent of the Summer Term.

Here is a list of some of the trips:

Year 8 Outdoor Leadership Week Trip: 11th - 18th June

The programme includes the following activities: climbing, abseiling, rafting, canoeing, pioneering, orienteering, archery, caving, team building and kayaking.

Year 9 Field trip Weekend: 13th - 16th May

This local weekend under canvas will focus on personal and social development, leadership skills and self-confidence.

Year 10 Adventure Activity Trip: 19th - 28th June

This trip is in its 7th year running and it has been a great success on each occasion. Water sports are on the programme as Tossa de Mar, Spain, enjoys a natural harbour with predictable winds for perfect sailing conditions and crystal clear waters for a rewarding snorkelling experience.

Infant and Junior School's Informal Concert

Pupils from the Infant and Junior School performed on Tuesday 3rd February 2009. It was great fun and both parents and teachers joined-in. Mrs Miller, Head of the Infant and Junior School, and Mrs Hassan have both recently taken to learning a musical instrument.

This challenge has paid off and although very nervous, Mrs Miller played the piano whilst Mrs Hassan played the flute. The evening was rounded off by audience and performers singing the White Cliffs of Dover.
