Dover College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As I type, the 4thand 5thYears are winding their way to the Basque country after an early start where they will be playing hockey and football. It should be a super experience for them and I am very grateful to the staff, led by Tom Butt.

I enjoyed hosting the reunion in Lagos last week, and met a large number of prospective pupils and parents, also visiting CIS School. We hosted the Pastoral Head from the same school, Dr Ojo, this last week, and it is super to share best practice.

The end of the Prep School half of term consisted of a super Harvest Festival Service this morning, where the school choirs sang under the watchful guidance of Mr Lockyer. It was very special, and wonderful to award the first Bronze Star of the term to

At the chapel in the senior school, we heard about the parable of the lost coin from St. Martin’s Lower Sixth. Anja Falkenstein, Alexis Edo-Osagie, Olivia Parkar, Josephine Mueller, Mia Deverson and Matilde Zanetti gave the presentation and were absolutely awesome. It is wonderful to think that these brilliant young ladies only arrived at the College seven weeks ago, and shows how our school is so good at developing confidence in such a short space of time. I was very proud of them.

I have also attached the prep work for pupils from Shell and above, which we have tried to ensure is measured for those pupils who are not taking their mocks at the end of this term.

I hope that everyone enjoys a restful and relaxing half term.

Yours faithfully,

Gareth Doodes.

Shell’s Island Project

Working in pairs, Shell W have been completing an Island Project as part of their study of the adventure genre. They had a number of tasks to complete including: drawing a map of and naming their island, writing a brief history of their island as well as creating a travel brochure that would appeal to adults with families. Finally, they prepared a presentation that would show all the wonderful things about their island and told us how lovely it would be there. They were all convincing and fun to watch however, the class voted Harry Dyson and Olivia Kibler’s ‘Dream Island’ as the one they would most like to visit.

Poppy Appeal 2019

British Legion poppies, bracelets and metal pins are available to purchase in the Prep School, Priory Lodge Reception and Houses.

Harvest Festival

The Prep School celebrated Harvest Festival this morning in Chapel. Pupils bought in from home donations of food that were collected by Dover Foodbank at lunchtime. In total, 18 large bags packed with tins, long life milk and pasta as well as sweet treats and cakes gathered.

Dover Foodbank provides 3000, three day emergency food supply parcels annually to the Dover community. They are open 365 days a year.

Jonathan Wheeler from Dover Foodbank would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
