Sports Report

Two successful outings took place on Saturday 11thJanuary, in Margate at the Kent Schools Individual Swimming Championships, and Sevenoaks for the Knole Run.

Dillon Clarke (School, U6) achieved 48thplace from 210 runners at Knole, a superb effort in his last appearance over the 5.8 mile course, and our best finish in many years. Supported by Toby Clarke (Leamington, U6) and Tul Lekhyananda (School, U6), who also ran very well, the three School Prefects did themselves and the College proud in a competitive field.

Oakley Price (School, 3rd) swam a personal best by 1.3 seconds as he finished in 10thplace in the Freestyle and Breaststroke, Adam Frost (School, 5th) was 4thin Freestyle and reached the County podium with 2ndin Breaststroke, whilst Nathaniel Turner (School, 3rd) also performed commendably to gain a 6thplace in Butterfly and 4thplace in Backstroke. This excellent set of results at the Hartsdown pool were reward for the boys’ endeavour and commitment to training outside of College time, well done.

This week sees the start of the Netball and Rugby seasons with U13, U14 and U15 teams all in action.

Excellent Work in Geography

On Monday 13th January, Period 3 there were three volcanic eruptions, an earthquake and a tsunami in Room LW8. This was all just before the fire alarm (not connected thankfully, as the lava was eaten quite quickly). Poppy Harris (Priory, Re), Cameron Matthews (Priory, Re), Maddie Warnock (Priory, Re), Charlotte Hodkinson (Priory, Re) and Olivia Frawley-Bailey (Priory, Re) brought in the wonderful creations. Pupils put a tremendous amount of work into these fine specimens of work and should be congratulated on them. I will be putting them forward for Headmaster’s Commendations.

‘Stars hide your fires’ Freeze Frame

As part of the Fourth Form’s study of Macbeth, they prepared freeze frames of the scene where King Duncan gave out his rewards.

Duncan has given his son Malcolm the title of the Prince of Cumberland, Macbeth has realised that he is not going to be King without taking action. Malcom is in his way. He tells the stars not to shine so no one can see what he is thinking – his thoughts are evil.

However, we are not told what Malcolm or Banquo are thinking.

Each pupil played either Duncan, Macbeth, Banquo or Malcolm. On an agreed signal, each of the characters unfreeze to speak their thoughts.

Mumps/Measles Awareness

Parents and guardians should please be advised that there is a continuing increase of Mumps and Measles in the area. Both are highly infectious and spread very easily. The best way of protection is to have the MMR vaccination, which can be arranged through your General Practitioner or via the Community Immunisation Team on 0300 123 5205. The school Medical Centre can be contacted for any further questions – 01304 244530.
