Dover College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

You will be fully up to speed with contingency plans being put into place in light of any COVID 19 alert. In addition to advice to our community regarding hygiene and limiting people from outside the community coming into the College, we have put together contingencies for any possible phased isolation plan, contacted all our pupils’ guardians, carried out a risk assessment and put together an extended management team, should it be required, that will coordinate the College’s response.

Clearly, the most important aspect of what we do is teaching, and all teaching staff will be given an INSET session tomorrow on e-learning, which will enable, should it be required, our classes to continue as normal should any buildings need to be isolated.

If any parent has a query or question, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

In staff news, I am delighted that Liz Plant has taken up post as Head of Sixth Form. She has been working closely with pupils in UCAS and I know will continue to throw herself into the academic and social side of the Sixth Form.

Yours faithfully,

Gareth Doodes.

Essay Excellence

Logos Institute hosted a UK-wide essay writing competition for British students in their final two years of School.

We are so proud of Freya Laidlow-Petersen (U6, St Martin’s) who ended up having one of the top ten best essays! She wrote her essay for the competition based on one of the prompts she could choose from; “It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence”. (W. K. Clifford).

Freya has received a prize of £150 and an all-expense paid ‘Spring School’ at the University of St Andrew’s. Furthermore, one exceptionally able student will be awarded a full fee scholarship to study theology and/or biblical studies at the University of St Andrew’s as well as a £2000 towards their living expenses (subject to passing the normal entrance requirements for the programme).

Freya will attend the short course with the nine other national winners of the essay competition at St. Andrew’s this coming August.
