Dover College

Our Pre Prep class have been putting their thinking caps on this week and discussing how they can reuse household items and recycle waste. There was lots of excitement when they created munching machines out of old milk bottles. The theme continued in maths when children swapped rubbish for money by weighing items to see how much it was worth before cashing them in. The children also enjoyed sorting different types of rubbish and making a bar chart with the information they gathered.

In phonics the children made a new friend, ‘Sid the phonics spider’. Sid will only eat food that is sounded out to him so the children have been extremely keen on segmenting their words.

The Pre Prep class and Muddy Knees pupils were represented at this week’s school council meeting where Lily, suggested that the area behind the toy shed needed sprucing up. After some discussion it was decided that pupils will recycle the waste currently cluttering up the area and reinvent the space with a sandpit and construction area.

Meanwhile, the Muddy Knees pupils have been making the most of the sunshine by spending lots of time in our Discovery Garden. They were particularly exhausted after their Forest School session where they had been learning about sharing and teamwork.

Looking ahead it is going to be another busy week for the youngest members of the Dover College family and we look forward to sharing the excitement of the week in the next edition or alternatively follow us on Dover College Facebook or @DoverMuddyKnees on Twitter.
